After our visit to the national coffee exchange of Ethiopia, we met up with a couple from the UK that Jon knows. They recently moved to Ethiopia to set up an office for a coffee trading company. We went to dinner in downtown Addis Ababa. It was a nice restaurant, fancy dressed waiters, artwork on the wall, all that jazz. We looked through the menu. I selected the sheep brains. The others laughed. I thought, when else would you eat sheep brains.

It wasn’t great. Just a regular meal. Until you realized it was brains. Then you gagged a bit, smiled and kept going.

I spent the rest of the night worried I’d get scrapie. Interpreting every stomach rumble as brain-hungry prions attacking my system.
