Most every train I’ve ridden in Poland has cabins where you face off 3 vs 3. And depending on the height of the person directly across, boarding is usually accompanied by an awkward negotiation for leg placement. Do you go wide and outside, or do you submit to the humiliation of the inside? Or do you go one for the other? Today I’m sitting across from a burly Pole who is clearly a dominant outsider.

But I have thwarted emasculation by going one foot inside and the other on the heater. Though my ass is numb, I retain my masculinity.
