There are old, sketch gumball machines (Kaugummiautomats) scattered willy-nilly about Germany. Contrary to the bright, glass-clad candy machines back home that properly display their wares to attract the attention of children and like-minded adults, the German ones rely on morbid curiosity to lure their customers in.

They are the equivalent of dark lit alley, drug dealing pimps spreading sugar to the curious. Twenty cents for a Center Shock Sour Gum Blast or just stick with the 10 cent no-name green apple gumball (shown here). But I don’t know no one that would shell out 50 cents for a bracelet or some kind of princess prize.

The prissies that would go for that probably would be creeped out by the dirty, rust-spot nappiness anyway.
