“Do you want an audio guide?”

“No thanks, I don’t have much time.”

“But it’s free.”

“Okay.”

Sometimes you go somewhere for something and discover that which you never knew you wanted. As it was when I went to Ulm, Germany, to check out the Walther Collection, a photography collection, turned world-class photography exhibition space just outside of Neu Ulm. And then discovered the world’s highest steeple (161.5 meters) at which point someone mentioned a Museum dedicated to bread (Museum der Brotkultur).

And so it was in the bread museum where the kind women persuaded me to take an audio guide. And finally I reached my final destiny*. I got to hear an amazing recording explaining the ‘bran puker’ which was attached to the flour mill to ‘puke’ out the bran leftover from milling back in the time before people realized bran was really good for you.

*I also found this great video of ‘Brezln schlingen,’ which must be watched repeatedly. Not quite destiny, but closer than the bran puker.
