You can see them operating there in the background. Serious mini-golfers. This is no time for putt-putt shit. Best be getting out of the way.

I had seen them on the course earlier and thought they were paramedics. The cases they carried were the typical multi-colored, foam-padded, tool-filled packs that I saw ambulance drivers carrying when I was a kid.

But these guys would have no idea of what to do in an accident unless it involved extracting a ball they had expertly inserted into an opposing player’s orifice or, barring that, Hole 17.

This little course can be found tucked behind downtown Bad Godesberg in one of the best kept secret spots in the area. A small stream and tall trees surround the course. The man behind the counter alternates between handing out balls and clubs and microwaving chicken sandwiches for a marginally adoring public. I purchased two ‘frikadelle,’ rough ground meat patties, with a small side of mustard.

I believe my gut is still trying to figure out why I did that.

Dedicated to Jenn Stapper as she steps into a brave new world. Cheers for the action plan, hope to report soon on that.
